This is the quickest stage of the project.
Prior to installation, our favoured conractor will come
onto the site with a track crew and tamper. The tamper
then levells and adjusts the sleepers / rail to make
them uniform throughout the three hundred metre site.
It should be noted that it is not necessary to move
the sleepers to specific centres. This is one of the
considerable time and cost saving benefits of the rubber
highway.
The HoldFast panels are 1.8metres to 5 metres in length
when positioned laterally along the track. They consist
of a cess panel (outisde of the rail edge) and one full
guage panel (these sit in between the two rails), joined
via a unique connecting system.
The panels have been thoroughly tested and proven in
some of the most critical level crossing locations on
the UK rail network.
The HoldFast Rubber Highway system also includes side
kerbs (not installed on the Corby trial).

The panels arrive on site by articulated lorry
and will continue to arrive periodically throughout
the installation works period.
They can be delivered in manageable numbers to suit
the installation crews, keeping local disruption to
a minimum and leaving the site relatively free of materials
during the day.
The installation itself only requires limited plant
equipment on site. Typically Bobcats, JCB’s, tele-handlers
or a road/rail lifting machine are used, in this case
it was a JCB.

The HoldFast panels have been thoroughly
tested and found to comply to Network Rail's specifications
for a road surface.
